Nollywood actor Olanrewaju Omiyinka James lias Baba Ijesha has been convicted and sentenced to 16 years imprisonment over the sexual assault and defilement allegations.
Recall that that in April 2021, Popular Nigerian comedienne, Damilola Adekoya, also known as Princess accused the actor of defiling her 14-year-old foster daughter.
The allegations led to a messy fight between Iyabo Ojo and Yomi Fabiyi. While Iyabo supported Princess’ side of the story, Yomi took a stand for his Ijesha.
After the rape report went viral, Baba Ijesha was arrested and dragged to an Ikeja Special Offences Court. He was convicted of indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault, attempted sexual assault by penetration, and sexual assault by penetration.
Although Baba Ijesha denied all the allegations, a video detailing his relationship with the girl said to be a minor was played in court to confirm his involvement in the crime by the prosecutors.
However, weeks after being remanded in Prison, Baba Ijesha was later released on health grounds.
It was gathered that his counsel, Adesina Ogunlana had in a letter to the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu sought Baba Ijesha’s bail and this led to him being released after his bail conditions were perfected.
Today, Thursday, July 14, the trial judge, Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo found the defendant guilty of four offences out of the six counts he stood trial for.
In a two-hour judgement, Baba Ijesha was pronounced guilty of counts two, three, four and five but the court absolve him of counts one and six due to the prosecution’s failure to prove the allegations.
He was found guilty of indecent treatment of a child and sexual assault, which is contrary to Section 135 of Lagos State Criminal Law 2015.
In conclusion, Baba Ijesha was sentenced to 16 years imprisonment.
