A Kenyan man identified as Francis Chege Wanjiru , was on Friday, June 24, charged with malicious damage to property after he allegedly destroyed his wife, Esther Wangechi Mwai’s academic certificates during a quarrel.
According to reports, the man was charged before the Kibera Law Courts, Nairobi for willfully and unlawfully damaging his wife’s KCSE and Diploma certificate both issued by the Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec).
It was gathered that on June 22, 202, the accused and his wife has a serious quarrel at their house in Waithaka area along Kikuyu road in Dagoretti Sub County, Nairobi.
He had just returned home at night when an argument ensued between him and Esther.
Out of anger, Francis took documents ( her Academic Certificates), which were in an envelope, and tore them to pieces before storming out of the house.
The matter was reported at the Waithaka police station by Esther and this led to the arrest of Francis.
During his trial, the accused denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Derrick Kutto. He was later released on a surety bond of Sh50,000 with an alternative cash bail of Sh10,000.
The case was then adjourned to July 12 for pretrial and fixing of hearing dates.
